No Magic Bullet

I don't know a lot about the TOPS organization. My good friend is the president of her chapter. I should learn more details! According to the internet, they are a nonprofit, noncommercial weight-loss support organization with a two-fold objective: to encourage healthy lifestyles through weight-management support groups and to sponsor obesity research. Group support is one of the keys to my friend's impressive weight loss.

If I understand my friend's information correctly, there is no one diet plan that they promote. I think this is wise. There are MANY ways to lose weight, and most of us who have this challenge are familiar with most of them.

Certain plans work more conveniently or effectively for certain people, but there is no "magic bullet". The sooner I accept this and get on with balanced, healthy eating in moderate portions, the quicker I am on my way to weight loss, increased energy, and a more positive frame of mind.

Smaller portions and eating primarily fresh fruits, vegetables, and 3-4 ounces of lean meat or fish daily has been my strategy THIS time. And it is working. I have thought it more difficult to lose weight this side of menopause. However, as I am consistent with my improved habits, I am finding the weight dropping much quicker than I expected.

Remember this: Whoever sows sparingly will also reap sparingly,
and whoever sows generously will also reap generously...
And God is able to make all grace abound to you,
so that in all things at all times, having all that you need,
you will abound in every good work.
2 Corinthians 9:6 & 8

Sow consistently, my friends! Sow generously. Don't be half-hearted or discouraged.
You will reap a GREAT harvest!

  1. Good for you! I have a switch in my head and I am not good at turning it on. When it is on, I can do well at eating responsibly. When it is off, I don't know how to turn it on. I am thankful that lately it has been turned on--at least for a little while. I have been watching how your weight is dropping quickly. I am more of a tortoise but it is going the right direction.

I liked your Bible verse a lot. It made me chuckle at first because I was thinking that if I just could sow sparingly--with less consumption. I would be so happy to reap sparingly as well with less weight gain. Not quite what the verse means.

  3. I have also heard of Tops here where I live, but have not tried it.

I enjoy group support, but I tend to do better alone and at a slow pace.

My diet consists of eating every 2 to 3hours. If I take to long to eat, I become extremely hungry and overeat :-(

also, I exercise. My regimen is not hard but it does work. I put a Pilates dvd and work out for 25mns everyday. This is working THIS time.

Rebecca, thank you for making this blog. I feel so encouraged by the wonderful verses you post here!

    blessings,

    lady m

  4. This verse is great. I did chuckle thinking of:
Whoever eats sparingly, will produce less fat.
Whoever eats generously will also reap generously.

    Thankfully God's grace abounds
so that in all things at all times,
    having all that you need,
you can sow generously in good works and bake for those that are actually needing food and abound in every good work.

  5. I like your "twisted mind" about this verse, Brenda! I KNOW it is in the context of financial giving and unselfish sharing with those who have need. I think the PRINCIPLE is that you reap according to the amount of effort/investment you put into a project - pressed down and running over, actually!
